Getting Better...

A couple days ago, while I was out in the driveway fixin' to finish some stuff up before I hit the road with the Goaty Wonderland, my neighbor Jerry stopped by. You remember Jerry from past posts as my wise, experienced neighbor, also the toughest 65-year-old I've ever met. I was in a good mood, because I felt like I was on track to leave on time. I bragged about this to Jerry, to which he responded while peering over the top of his glasses, "Uh-oh, now that ain't what you're famous for!" He was right, but I think I'm getting better. Today I was making cuts 2 - 3 steps ahead, like some kind of Bobby Fischer of the chicken coop world. I was on track to break a coop building record before Mother Nature took a wrong turn at the Great Lakes and proceeded to dump a miserable barrage of sleet and snow on our house and the surrounding vicinity.

I've got some pictures to share; I think I'll just dive in. I'm too tired for story time.

This probably doesn't excite you, but this design might become a type of "standard" that I can crank out, or teach someone else to crank out if I get a helper some day.

Last time we did a double-rim joist all the way around before we put the sides on. This time the sides basically are the joists. We'll pop the inner rim in later. What provides convenience in one scenario, is probably causing inconvenience somewhere else down the line, those are the little kinds of kinks I need to work out.

From the front.

This guy stopped by the house and asked if I wanted a load of wood, "Of course" I replied. Actually, my neighbor told him I was looking and he just happened to be his was to the log yard down the road, but sold them to me instead.
Some of those real straight oak logs are going to become some old fashioned fencing. You don't want to miss that.
Still needs door, windows, nesting box and wire mesh floor. No prob.

Same coop, different angle.

OK, I'm going to bed.
